server-manager unattainable
« on: May 06, 2011, 08:51:41 PM »
I have a weird problem I can not reach the server-manager from my other machine the Windowsclient.
When I ping to myservername loek it is unattainable. But 192.168.1.4 works fine.
I had no problems so far today till now. How can I solve this problem.

with the system, I re-order
Thanks

Are you able to SSH into your server as root?
From Window$ machine you can use MindTerm to SSH http://www.cryptzone.com/products/agmindterm/  (Click on Download)

I don't understand what you are trying to say here:
"with the system, I re-order"

Are you saying you can ping successfully using the ip address, but not when trying by name? If so, it's likely a dns issue.

Make sure your window$ machine is set for DHCP, then maybe refresh the DHCP so it gets the DNS address properly. If your Windose machine is on a hub or switch, then it won't always get the new details until the next DHCP refresh, which might be 24 hours away, particularly if you have changed your server name (eg from a restore) as the hardware and mac address will still be the same. You may also need to ipconfig /flushdns to clear out any stale cached addreses on the windose box.
