There is documentation to assist you in making custom changes to your e-smith server/gateway at http://www.e-smith.org/custom/.

There are a number of alternative ways of supporting frontpage server extensions with apache. You will  have to choose one of them, then interpret the installation instructions in light of the e-smith documentation.
