Mail to a specific domain is failing...
« on: June 07, 2011, 06:26:26 PM »
Config
SME Version:  7.5.x
Client SMTP Server = SME Server (mail.rydellauto.local)
eMail Path:  Local SMTP ----> Upstream ISP SMTP ----> Destination SMTP
Special:  MailLog has been enabled.

Question
With most domains, except one, eMail is sent and received normally.

If we attempt to send anything to the "iada.com" domain, it is rejected by the server as "User Unknown".  Looking at the returned code in the e-mail, it appears that our SME Server is attempting to look at itself for the users in the other domain, without it being configured to do so.  For obvious reasons, it fails to retrieve the proper list of users and properly rejects the message.

We don't host the "iada.com" domain and need to stop the system from attempting to look at itself as the delivery agent for this other domain.  How can I do this?  Where do I look for some answers?

PS.  Using a different e-mail service to send a message to the non-existent "pauladams@iada.com" address, yields no response from their system.

PSS.  I intend to post this to BugZilla when it comes back up, apparently tomorrow.

Hi. This is the qmail-send program at rydellauto.local.
I'm afraid I wasn't able to deliver your message to the following addresses.
This is a permanent error; I've given up. Sorry it didn't work out.

<pauladams@iada.com>:

Giving up on 127.0.0.1.
This most likely has to do with the fact that this domain is not a valid domain, the tld local is not a valid tld and hence external servers do not accept mail from it. You should configure a proper domain with a valid tld.
If you have a look at your other domains you will probably see that your other domains all have a valid tld.

There is one thing that I forgot to mention that may have a bearing on what's happening...

E-mail flows through our system this way:

Local SMTP (rydellauto.local) ---> Upstream ISP SMTP (mx1c2.megamailservers.com) ----> Destination SMTP (server112.appriver.com)
