Fetchmail: Cannot look up canonical name
« on: July 09, 2002, 12:05:31 PM »
Hi,

I'm using e-smith 5.0 with the fetchmail multidrop add on from http://www.e-smith.dyndns.org/

I've got it set to 'no debug' and e-smith is running in server only mode. E-smith is set to check for mail every 5 minutes at all times.

When e-smith has been offline for a while (I think about 12 hours), I start getting emails to the admin (me) stating that fetchmail was unable to look up the cannonical name for the site that its set to collect the email from.

Also on occasion I get an email saying that it could not launch as there was already a fetchmail process running.

How do I stop from getting these errors emailed to admin? If I'm away for a couple of days, they start to really add up!!

Regards
Craig

My solution was to create a filter in my email client to pipe these messages to the trash.

As they're on your local network, they're not sucking up too much bandwidth.

The "canonical" one is usually when DNS cannot resolve, i.e its either dialled down or DNS needs refreshing...
