DAR2 restore to smaller volume?
« on: July 19, 2011, 06:01:16 AM »
Is it possible to use the DAR2 contrib to restore to a smaller volume?

I have successfully used DAR2 to move my SME mail server to new hardware, always to larger volumes. I wish to run virtualized in VMWare ESXi to reduce the number of hardware machines I am running. My data set is nowhere near as large as the physical volume (160GB) I am currently running.

[root@mailserver74 ~]# df -H
Filesystem                         Size   Used  Avail Use% Mounted on
/dev/mapper/main-root      158G    11G   140G   7% /
/dev/md1                          104M    16M    83M  16% /boot
none                                 131M      0   131M   0% /dev/shm

I was wanting to know if it possible to restore using DAR2 to a more suitable sized volume eg double my current usage maybe 30GB?

This would make backing up the volume image far more doable in real time. I would still use the DAR2 backup daily but would love a belt and braces backup solution and keep an image file offsite so I could rebuild quickly in a disaster situation.

Thanks in advance.

Gary

Yes, install a fresh OS and then restore from backup, follow the instructions re restoring that are in the Contrib wiki article
Please search before asking, an answer may already exist.
