Turns out my hard drive was failing and had bad data in the boot area. Fortunately I had a recent backup. New drives installed (two drives this time with functioning RAID 1 so I have a bit less risk). And I will continue to run regular backups (which sure saved my bacon this time).
==========
My system was working properly until I rebooted as part of a reconfigure after applying an upgrade.
My guess is that the boot partition MD1 has been damaged. The messages I get are as follows:
GRUB loading, please wait...
then...
GNU GRUB version 0.95 (634K lower / 3143232K upper memory)
Error 25: Disk read error
grub>
I have only a single disk in the system and I cannot boot.
Tried using the sme rescue and "grub-install /dev/sda" but it said that grub was not available.
How can I get this resolved?
Thanks for your help.
