Hi all, (my 1st post)

please forgive my ignorance and be patient with my lack of linux knowledge.

I have a HP DL380 G4 server with a smart array 6i controller. I have installed SME server 8 beta release 6, performed all updates and installed 3ware 3dm2. The server is set up to 2 drives on raid 1 and 4 on raid 5 (via HP's ACU). 3dm2 doesn't recognise the controller.

Does this mean I need to install the latest red hat drivers for the smart array 6i? If so, do I download this:-

http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareDescription.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodTypeId=329290&prodSeriesId=426654&swItem=MTX-2a9cef0e3abf4a84acb88b0a66&prodNameId=426655&swEnvOID=4103&swLang=13&taskId=135&mode=4&idx=1

Finally how do I install it? I attempted the instructions from the hp site but got 'error: Failed dependencies: .....' message.

Any help and guidance would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Ayaz

well, AFAIK smart array 6i controllers have nothing to do with 3ware

you say your SME is up and running (btw, I sincerely didn't understand your hd layout.. how does SME sees the hds?)
so you don't need anything more

I guess you are looking for monitoring tools.. aren't you?

Since you have sucessfully installed SME8 and updates then you already have the latest RH drivers for the cciss 6i controller.

I don't know why you installed 3ware 3dm2, and it is not surprising that it does not work for you.

If, as Stefano guesses, you want to install monitoring software, HP do have a bundle for deployment under CentOS - unfortunately it's a complex bundle of different packages. There might be a simpler option - see http://cciss.sourceforge.net/.

Thanks guys,

Yes I do want some monitoring s/w, thanks for the link CharlieBrady, I will give it go.

SME server sees the both scsi drive channels as raid 1, Where as I want 2 drives on RAID 1 and the 4 drives on RAID 5. Can you help with a gui that will help me to convert the 4 drives to raid 5 or the commands via command line.

Thanks

you can't change anything now

reinstall SME with only the raid1 array active (F2 at cd boot to exclude sw raid)
then enable the raid5 array, and add it following this howto: http://wiki.contribs.org/AddExtraHardDisk

next time, please:
- before installing, read carefully the documentation
- before posting, search the forums and the wiki
- while postibng, tell us all the info..

thank you ;-)

Yes I do want some monitoring s/w,

HP does not make this easy for you. They provide software, but it is complex and difficult to install, and they don't use a license which allow others to include that software in their distributions, or to make changes to that software.
