Change senders adress
« on: October 10, 2011, 10:21:02 AM »
Hello,

I don't know if the subject is right/clear and i don't know if this is the right part for posting this but ill give it a shot.

At home i installed smeserver as a NAS.

I installed AFFA for the backup, this is working perfect!!

but the only thing i have is that when the affa job is done is sends a email (this is good) but when i receive the email i says:

Hi. This is the qmail-send program at domain.local.
I'm afraid I wasn't able to deliver your message to the following addresses.
This is a permanent error; I've given up. Sorry it didn't work out.

<user@gmail.com>:
Connected to 212.54.34.* but sender was rejected.
Remote host said: 550-Verification failed for <root@domain.local>
550-Unrouteable address
550 Sender e-mail address invalid / Afzender e-mail adres bestaat niet

--- Below this line is a copy of the message.

Return-Path: <root@domain.local>
Received: (qmail 6777 invoked by uid 101); 10 Oct 2011 07:49:27 -0000
Delivered-To: admin@server.domain.local
Received: (qmail 6773 invoked by alias); 10 Oct 2011 07:49:27 -0000
Delivered-To: alias-localdelivery-admin@domain.local
Received: (qmail 6761 invoked by uid 0); 10 Oct 2011 07:49:26 -0000
Date: 10 Oct 2011 07:49:26 -0000
Message-ID: <20111010074926.6757.qmail@domain.local>
Subject: Success on server.domain.local (192.168.88.*): Job 'server scheduled' completed.
To: admin@<domain>.local
From: "Affa Backup Server" <noreply@server.domain.local>

<and here the result of the backup>

In SME i filled in the SMPT-server that i got from my ISP, because i don't have a business line at home.

My question

Can i change the senders adress to a known adress? because it looks like my ISP doesn't know the sender adres and that is why is gives this error.

is there a way to change the senders adress (from adress) to a email that got from my ISP?

I hope i discripted the issue well, english is not my main language.

For mail to be delivered externally you need a valid domain. Domains ending in .local are not valid, hence this message:
<user@gmail.com>:
Connected to 212.54.34.* but sender was rejected.
Remote host said: 550-Verification failed for <root@domain.local>
550-Unrouteable address
550 Sender e-mail address invalid / Afzender e-mail adres bestaat niet

Determining from you error message I suspect you live in The Netherlands, a valid dutch domain normally ends in .nl. You will need to buy a domain and configure your server appropriately in order to use the external mail server and/or deliver e-mail externally.

I live indeed in the Netherlands :P

But where i work we also use SMEserver because it is very easy in use and its FREE :P.

And there we also use .local / .lan extension for the the domain, and that won't give errors when sending mail this kind of mails. Only difference is is that on my work we have a business line for the internet.

but where i work we olso use SMEserver (i am a starting systemadministrator) and there we olso use .local / .lan extension for the the domain, and that won't give errors when sending mail this kind of mails. only diffrence is is that on my work we have a business line for the internet.
And most likely another mail server sending the mail for you. I doubt they are delivered from SME Server directly to an external mail server.

SME can't send emails from itself, so i filled in the SMTP server from the ISP (smtp.<isp>.nl) and now SME wil send me mail, but the only come with an error...:(

Yes it can when you configure it wit  a valid TLD.

so i filled in the SMTP server from the ISP (smtp.<isp>.nl) and now SME wil send me mail, but the only come with an error...:(
Because of the invalid TLD in your address.

i know SME can be a mailserver on itself, but what i meant was that whit my internet connection it can't send mail directly, it has to go throug the SMTP server from the ISP.

but the only fix is to get a valid domain and config it whit that?

The error message you are getting is a gmail error.
The gmail mail servers are unhappy with your domain address as it is not resolvable.
The error is not really sme servers fault, it is gmail being strict.

Mail sent via your isp's mail server should be OK, so I wonder if you have really set sme server up correctly ?
Perhaps your isp is not considered trustworthy enough by other mail servers.

It is bad policy to use domain names like mydomain.local etc, it is far better and avoids various issues by using mydomain.com etc even if it is not real, but better still to get a free domain name as a minimum.

You can get a free domain from dyndns.com and that may be better to configure your sme server with eg yourname.dyndns.org or whatever you choose.
Alternatively configure it with your business domain, that may work better.
