AFAIK windows 2008 can connect only to AD domains and not to NT-style..

google with the keys "windows 2008 join domain nt-style"..

good luck

SME server is a NT style domain controller. You cannot join an Active Directory server to a Windows NT style domain controller and expect Active Directory services to work, as the Active Directory services are not supported.
Please search these forums as I'm sure the topic has been raised quite a few times.

Also please read
http://wiki.contribs.org/Advanced_Samba
particlualrly this paragrapgh right at the end.
"Active Directory

NONE of the currently supported server roles will fully integrate with an Active Directory network environment. The currently supported server roles will work with NT4 network or windows workgroup environments only. Specifically, those who desire to deploy the Domain Member server role need to be aware that this server role WILL NOT provide domain membership in a Active Directory domain, only a NT4 domain."
Please search before asking, an answer may already exist.

On Windows 2003 server it was a "mixed" domain option during installation. That option supported both AD and older NT4 style domains. Once you install it without selecting Mixed mode, its AD only. I am no sure if this domain option is still present in Windows 2008 server.

you can try this, but if it doesn't work stay with Windows 2003 server in the mixed (not native) domain mode.

It is not. It was only supported up to and including 2003.
