Backup direct from server machine
« on: October 30, 2011, 12:29:10 PM »
Hello everybody,

We have a server machine running SME 8.06 beta. For the moment we use it as a file server.

My backup method is primitive and simple.
I copy files located in ibays by connecting an external harddisk to my client machine running win7. The copy speed is considerably low.
Is there any solution to make this copy process by connecting the external USB harddisk directly to the server machine and initiate copying of all the data located in server's hard used for file storage from a client computer?

There are a number of backup methods implemented in the server-manager (http://wiki.contribs.org/SME_Server:Documentation:Administration_Manual:Chapter10), then there are also some written by others as a contrib, go have a look at http://wiki.contribs.org/Category:Backup.
