I´ve some problems with AD (2003 server) it is the first DNS server, and SME is the gateway and second DNS server, but some times when 2003 take more than "x" time to resolve the names SME assumes (obvius is the second DNS).
When it apens i had same problems sincronizing users profiles with AD.
When i shutdown SME the problem dont presist.

Tx

(sorry my english)

Yes it´s windows 2003 server, in clients the first dns is AD and second is SME.
Mybe i can create a domain or host in sme with AD (ad.domain.local) to force second dns to replay to the first. It´s possible.
to force the first dns to respond?

don't use 2 dns server.. use w2003 only

and use dhcp (with reservations if necessary)
