Automatic filtering of incoming mails
« on: July 09, 2012, 03:09:50 PM »
Hello,

In the company where I'm employed, thanks to one of our providers, we can use horde 3.0.4 to read our mails.
In this version, I created severals filters and these filters sort automatically the incoming mails : For example, If the subject of the mail contains "your order", the filter moves the mails in a particular folder.

Today, we have installed SME server 8. In this SME server, the version of horde is 4.3.9. I created exactly the same filters as previously, they work but I'm forced to click on "Apply filters" when I'm on the inbox.

I've already watched the mails/filters options but the options I saw aren't those I search.

Can you help me ? Anyone has the same problem ?

Best regards,
Thanks.

No... there are an option to apply filters any time inbox is shown, or just once you connect.
It's inside filter settings... or something like that.
Go to Mail, options, other options, filter ... on filter settings there are 5 boxes to choose how/when to apply filters.

Enjoy!

Hello Jader,

First, thanks to your answer :)

I've already seen the options you talk about. Actually, yes my filters work automatically on the web-mail when i'm using it.
But I'm sorry, on my first post, I didn't explain my situation right.

All the employee are using Microsoft Outlook to read their mails. Our customers service (6 persons) share an IMAP mailbox but they don't have any access to the web-mail. Currently, no one has to use the web-mail to apply the filters. They go to the mailbox in Outlook and the sort is already done by horde (3.0.4). Whereas in the SME server 8 (horde 4.3.9), when i create the same filters, the e-mails aren't sort automatically. All the e-mails are in the inbox and the filters aren't apply automatically when they go in their outlook too.

I wish I'm clearer :)

Best regards,
Thanks again.

AFAIK the mail rules are for HORDE/IMP environment... so just apply there... not for an e-mail client.
If you're sure this worked before, please open a bug... report # here... I'd love to see this feature working.

Sorting only works when using Ingo via webmail.  No other type of sorting ever worked on SME Server out of the box.  You'd need to use, I believe, dot-qmail rules.  Every user has some rules defined when they are created.  Look in /home/e-smith/files/users/<user>, then ls -la and look at the .qmail type files.

Hello :-)

(I'm sorry, I'm french and I hope my English is readable.)

Yes, I know the sorting is only applied in the web-mail by Ingo but not by an e-mail client like Outlook.

I verified this morning and now I'm sure. Horde version 3.0.4 sort automatically the incoming e-mails with the rules I created even when I don't use the web-mail at all. I created a rule and I closed my browser. I sent a mail test with "your order" as subject from Outlook to myself and the mail is automatically move into a folder called "Orders".

With Horde 4.3.9, the mails stay into the inbox and I have to connect to my web-mail and Apply filters manually, then the mails are moved into the folder called "Orders".

Am I alone to have this problem ? I wouldn't open a bug report in case it would be a mistake from me.

I'll read about dot-qmail rules. Thanks mrjhb3.

Have a nice day,

Thanks again.
Kenny.

None of the horde versions have ever done that on SME server out of the box.  You might have ingo configured to use procmail, which could do the sorting, or some other contrib.  dungog.net's smeserver-mailsorting does come to mind.

Hello,

Ok thank you very much John, I understand. I think this feature should be integrated directly in the SME server unless i'm one of the only person who want it :)
Thank you Jader.

I'll come back post the solution or some links which explain how to do.

Kenny.
