we have dns settings on our local network (www.hcd.com) and we're planning to change this from www.hcd.com to www.hcdhci.com.  How?

Cheers!

Come on ! Surely if you can install sme server you can read the manual for simple stuff like that.
Please read the manual, link at top of forums.

In short log in as admin to the console and make the change

Huh, I did !

Did you read my answer where it says:

In short log in as admin to the console and make the change

How much easier can that be, how hard is it for you to do that rather than say no one told you the answer ?????

Edit....
OK spoon feeding time coz I'm not busy like you are !
This took me 10 seconds to find just by clicking on the link I told you to use and reading the obvious section headings till I got here:
http://wiki.contribs.org/SME_Server:Documentation:Administration_Manual:Chapter5#Configuring_your_SME_Server

Edit again....
Are we a happy sme camper now ?

OK now assuming that I've already change my hcd.com to hcdhci.com does this changes will automatically change the LDAP for our local intranet mail?

All aspects/settings of the server that used hcd.com will now change to hcdhci.com

It is usually quite safe to change your main domain this way.

If you have external users or settings looking for the old references then there will be problems/settings you have to fix.

Typically they should automatically find the new LDAP settings, but I have only dabbled with LDAP & do not use it so cannot say much more about it.

Keep in mind that everyone who answers anything here is a philanthropist, by the mere act of answering your or others questions freely, whether you consider the answers terse or otherwise.

For me it depends on how you approach your answers to the people questions...

It's like it doesn't matter how you WIN the GAME but HOW you PLAY the GAME

Well for me, and I'm sure many of those who answer questions on this forum, it depends more on the attitude of the questioner.
Many questioners show impatience and a lack of any attempt to do what is advised to them, or to have made any investigations themselves prior to asking.

You yourself could take a dose of your own medicine, I answered your question, briefly I'd agree, but you initially didn't even bother to acknowlege that I even gave you an answer, you even persisted to ask for more instructions rather than try what I said and investigate for yourself.

You may quote lots of smart sayings etc, but I suggest you play the game a bit better.
Coming here with a "I want what I want & I want it now & I want to be spoon feed" will not win you any friends around here.

PS I won't comment further along these lines, other more important things to do.
