Forward web virtual domain requests to internally located machine

(1/2) > >>

mchettle:
I have a need to forward web services to an internally located machine, for one of my virtual domains. I would also like all sub-domains to go to the same machine.

Is this possible with SME 8 and can anyone point me to a how-to or give me instruction on how to do it.

Thanks, in advance.

Mark

You need to describe your existing network layout,
ie router is the gateway ?
sme in server & gateway mode is the gateway ?
is the other server an sme in server only mode, or another windows server or what ?

mchettle:
SME Server is in Server Gateway mode, with 2 network cards, one for WAN, one for Local network.

This is connected to a modem/router set to bridge mode to pass everything straight through to the SME server.
The internal network is DHCP managed by the SME server.
The recipient servers will not be SME machines.

Please read the FAQ, look for proxy pass
http://wiki.contribs.org/SME_Server:Documentation:FAQ

mchettle:
Thank You, some questions however.

Because one has to remove the virtual domain from the SME server before setting up the ProxyPass, does this mean the SME server will no longer be able to manage emails to that domain name?
What other implications are there when doing this? Is it only for http requests, what happens to other port requests, such as ftp, etc.

Thanks
Mark
