Hello,

As I have multiple difficulties to install SME8 on my new server, I'm trying to find the best actual chipset that is fully compatible with SME8 (with SATA-3 Raid and good support for fast memory and I7 proc) and it's really difficult to find (I didn't fount clear HCL for SME8 or CentOS 5.8).

If you managed to install SME8 on quite new hardware, can you give me your chipset configuration (or motherboard name) it would really help.

Thanks,

David

Try RHEL5. Here's how:

do you really need sata3-raid, i7 and so on?

if you need something stable, certified, supported, buy an IBM or HP server.. NEVER had nay kind of trouble with them

IMHO, if you are looking for a server and not a playing machine you should not waste your time searching for the single pieces of hw..

Like Stefano says, you won't get fired for buying HP. I have 2 x ML 110 G6 servers, one running SME 7 the other SME 8 & a microserver running SME 8. You can check HP compatibility here:

I can recommend the 4Gb HP N40L Microserver - installed SME 8.0 without any problems, runs very quietly and I got the beast for less than $300 Australian (AUD300). Put 4 x 1Tb disks in at another AUD90 each. Been running 24/7 now for nearly 6 months.

+1 on the N40, I have run with VMWare 16GB 120GB SSD 2 x 500GB and 1 x 2TB drives..was just to try ESXi and see how the N40 handled multi VMs running, was all good, and yes 16gb is not supported but if you get the right ones it will accept it and is all available to VMWare

Currently back to 8GB 2 x 500s in a Raid 1 for SME 8 and 1 x 2TB and 2 x 1 TB for data and iBays..

Sits im lounge room in a corner, apart from the search light bright HP logo you would not know it was there..
