SME Server listed on Rats
« on: October 31, 2012, 09:37:38 AM »
Hi All,

Can anyone advise on following - have noticed that the fixed dsl IP of our co is listed on Rats and fails on

> Does IP Address comply with reverse hostname naming convention... Failed!

We are using the ISP's relay out which I thought would have prevented this however I am guessing the IP
address is in the header and its reversal is to the ISP dsl allocated name?

Thanks!

Your IP is listed on http://www.spamrats.com/rats-dyna.php

> Does IP Address comply with reverse hostname naming convention... Failed!

To check reverse dns using this site http://remote.12dt.com/ and pasting your
IP address in the box gives ;

81.137.236.26 resolves to "host81-137-236-26.in-addr.btopenworld.com"

Edit:

http://wiki.contribs.org/SME_Server:Documentation:Administration_Manual:Appendix#PTR_Records

"The PTR record for your SME Server only becomes important if you plan to deliver email directly from your SME to recipient email servers (without using your ISP's mail server as a relay)"

We are actually using our web hosts relay however ...

Its ok guys - this is a BT request I think - not sure though that they will add ptr records because our domain isnt hosted with them [just using them for dsl service]
