How ambitious are you?  There is minimal talk here, http://bugs.contribs.org/show_bug.cgi?id=6653.  I've just uploaded the smeserver rpm's that I'm using for testing to my horde5 contribs directory.  They are the same one's that I was using for horde 4.  If you go to administration, configuration, the apps will say they are out of date.  The only thing missing is changing the id file, I just haven't got around to doing that.  If you really, really want to do some testing, then you can install horde5 via pear, per the instructions on the horde site, or I can upload the current pear and horde pear files to my contribs directory, and post the instructions I'm using.  Let me know what you prefer.

To get more movement on this, we would really need an easier way, IMO, to create the RPM's.  I started looking at this, but it seemed to much for me at the time.

If possible, I would prefer to last option?

Just a thought, you may wish to continue this discussion at Bugzilla? i.e. http://bugs.contribs.org/show_bug.cgi?id=6653 ?  Or open a new bug with a reference to this topic? In this way all Devs are across it and it stays on the records.  Hope I do not offend. Thanks.

Meelis,

I didn't forget about you, I got side-tracked.  I've posted what I use in my contribs directory.  I posted the individual files, then got smart and zipped everything up, so you only have to download one file.  You can get the zip file from http://distro.ibiblio.org/smeserver/contribs/jbennett/sme8/horde5.tar.gz.  It's 28MB.  Unzip it using tar -xf horde5.tar.gz.   In the horde5 directory, there is a file called SME8_Install_horde5.  Look that over and make you understand what's going on.  You need to run this from the server console.  Why, because I found that even though I had all of the files downloaded, the pear installer ignored them and re-downloaded them again.  So, the install does an ifdown on eth0, so the Internet isn't available, and the pear installer works fine.  If you are running in server/gateway mode, then you will need to probably change the script to bring down eth1.  There will be some messages scroll across the screen about missing dependencies, but all of the files needed, will be installed.  My big cavaet.  This is what works for me, I can't and won't guarantee it will work for anyone else.  It works fine for a new install, for upgrades, there is a lot more testing that is needed.  If you start testing, you should also look around the horde mail archives, and the www.horde.org site at some of the documentation.  There are quite a few signficant changes from horde 3/4 to horde 5.

Chris, I would move this discussion to the bug tracker, but the devs really discourage people from running scripts, whether there are good intentions or not, so I think until there are some RPM's that get generated for more general testing, I'll stay here.  Greg Swallow did post in the bug tracker, links to this site, http://rpms.famillecollet.com/el5.i386/ that have some horde RPM's built.  The sources are here, http://rpms.famillecollet.com/SRPMS/.  Over my Christmas break, I may have a look at the sources and see how hard it would be to modify them to work with SME8.

Good Luck, and Thanks,

John

Hi John,

could you explain a little more what you mean by an easier way to create the RPMs? I may be able to help.

Looking at the some of the files Greg posted to teh remi site, I couldn't figure out how the RPM's were built and how to tailor them for SME.   Sometimes the pear make-rpm-spec worked and sometimes it didn't.  Trying to build some of the RPM's, just to see if I could, would give me an error saying a certain pear version needed to be installed, which already was installed on the server I was trying to build the RPM's on. I didn't spend a whole lot of time on these issues, though, so I can't give you any more details.

Probably a good reason to stick this in the bug tracker and you may well get some help doing this !

It's there, http://bugs.contribs.org/show_bug.cgi?id=6653.  The subject is for horde 4 not 5 as 5 came out pretty quick after 4, and since no one is really working on this, the subject wasn't changed.
