LDAP
« on: November 10, 2012, 04:10:21 AM »
I have been very busy setting up a large network, and things are failing left and right!

My setup:
SME 8 (Domain/File/Web Server [Server and Gateway Mode])
SME 8 (AFFA Backup Server Only [Server Mode])
Centos6 (Media Server)
Windows Server 2003 (Workstation)

What I am trying to set up is some legacy server equipment that was donated to be my main media server for 45 classrooms. The Legacy equipment is using 21 36gb SCSI drives, so I felt it would be faster accessing this, rather than my main Gateway SME8 Sever. However, SME8 is not compatible with the Plex Medias Server Software, so I am using Centos6 as the legacy servers OS.

I am trying to bind the Centos6 user authentication to my main SME8 server. I am setting up using Webmin 1.6 on the Centos6, and I get as far as seeing all the users and groups. However, when I validate my settings to begin authentication it throws an error:

Checking Unix users service ..
.. service is not setup to use LDAP.

I don't know what settings you need to see, but I can give you whatever is necessary, it is just a lot of information to put in one post, so I didn't want to put everything.

(I need the authentication to be able to load the movies, music, and random videos to a Samba Share folder in Centos6. I got as far as setting up PLex, and being able to see my Centos6 server in Windows Networking. I just can't gain access because Centos6 has no users.)

I Still Don't KNOW WHAT I AM DOING. Please, don't assume I know anything about Linux or Centos, I just know hardware

You might get some pointers from one of these articles:
http://wiki.contribs.org/Client_Authentication:Ubuntu
http://wiki.contribs.org/Client_Authentication:Fedora

Also, nas4free is pretty easy to setup as a dedicated NAS service.

NAS4Free is not an option for me. Although PLex Media Server will run on it, Red5 or crtmp won't. The live streams that my organization does need to be handled by this server (it has more memory, ECC memory, faster hard drive throughput, and low usage).

If I follow the Ubuntu authentication changes, it should affect Centos equally, right?
I am using Webmin for Centos6 at the moment, but I see that in order to authenticate SME8 users, there won't be a panel in Webmin that can be used. Also, I see that these options are not LDAP authentication, but turning the server into a WINS Domain client. I should, in theory, be able to complete this somehow in Webmin1.6 under the Samba Panel. Any idea?

SME has me trained on templates and panels to the point, I don't like making any changes to files unless they are through panels or templates. Just trying to see if I could make those changes in a webmin panel, or possibly, another management app that I don't know about.
