IIRC you have many virtual machines.. install your preferred/needed mysql on one of them and then simply connect moodle to the db.. you can install mysql on windows too

No way! I can use the database from another server on my local network, but run the web app on my main server? I never knew what I had.
So I just have to change host to the ip of my local server? What if you had virtual environments,.you wouldn't have a different ip for each virtual server, so how could you do it then?

this makes no sense for me.. each virtual machine has a (virtual) network interface.. and it can be bridged (so the ip can be in the same range of the host), natted and so on..

let's say you have only one public ip: your host (likely) is natted behind the router/firewall.. let's say 192.168.1.1.. each virtual machine can have its virtual nic in bridged mode and so can have 192.168.1.2, .1.3 ecc

Thanks. I was not right in believing each server shared the ip of the host server. Each server shares the nic, but that's hardware, not virtual. So I got this AOL wrong, I don't nee equipment for every server I want to run. I just bed one good server and I can have unlimited virtual servers. Thanks.
You have any experience with ESXi, it seems that's the only virtualization I can run on HP DL380 G3.

Where do I download the iso? It doesn't appear to be free
