changing static IP address (SOLVED)
« on: February 01, 2013, 11:43:51 PM »
I set the server up on xx.xx.51.x.  I now need to change the ip address to xx.xx.57.x.  On other Linux I could type in "system-config-network" and get a gui that would let me set it up. However, I can find nothing like that. I tried editing the various conf files but everything I check gives me something different for commands or files.

Is there a simple command to open up a gui internal to the SME8 server?  At this time I cannot access it via any of the IP URL's.

Thanks.

I would have a good read of these chapters first http://wiki.contribs.org/SME_Server:Documentation:Administration_Manual:Chapter5 just so I had a bit more info re how SME does what it does and then http://wiki.contribs.org/SME_Server:Documentation:Administration_Manual:Chapter6

Don't forget the reconfig/reboot

Good Luck

if you change the ip of your network, your sme is no longuer reachable by ssh, so you need to put a keyborard and a monitor.
Login with admin and the root password then use the menu "configure this server" and change the ip or many other stuff....

as said trex don't forget to reconfigure the server.

I set the server up at work on that network. Then relocated it to home, hence the different IP address.  I do this routinely with the linux phone server, moving them from one lan to the other. There is a mechanism on that within Linux to make the change (accessed by "system-config-network").  Wanted to try and find something like that in SME8.  It really shouldn't be insurmountable just to change the IP address of the server.

As I said, every place I look has some other set of commands or location for the files.

DE

PS  SUCCESS..  the 2nd article above said "log in as ADMIN instead of ROOT".  THANKS.  Got it all changed, logged in via the web browser and can now finish setting it up.   Thanks again.......

I've been logging into the phone servers for weeks fighting issues there and alway log in as "root".  So, naturally did it here and it logged in fine. EXCEPT couldn't get to the console. :(

So have you logged into the server as admin and accessed the console, from there Configure the server?

From what you say you have physical access to the server?
