USR-2977 PCI Hardware Modem
« on: July 30, 2002, 08:17:31 AM »
Have a new US Robotics/ 3Com Hardware Modem, model 2977. SME 5.5 won't detect it (neither will previous versions), but my Redhat 7.2 installs and configures it correctly.  I went on USRs site, and downloaded a so-called Linux driver (RPM).  I installed this on the SME machine.  What is supposed to happen is that this one file (/etc/rc.c/init.d/serial) runs at startup, detects all /tty/Sxx ports and devices, and as soon as it detects the modem, it will dial.  As I mentioned, this worked fine on my Redhat system.  In SME, it won't add this "serial" program to the startup tasks.

How can I get that program to start up automatically?  When I start it manually, the modem (on COM4) automatically dials, and all is well.  But I neeeeed to get it to start automatically.  [I tried using , it is listed in there, but all the services are unchecked, and checking off serial won't do a thing - SME must not use ntsysv for enabling/disabling services like RH does?]

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance ~ Art
