Troubleshooters needed
« on: July 02, 2013, 04:06:04 AM »
This distribution needs your help, and here is one role that requires no previous experience.

Troubleshooter
http://wiki.contribs.org/SME_Server_Development_Framework#Troubleshooter

There's a lot that non-coders can do to help in the bug tracker to improve bug report quality. We need help in making sure that bug reports are clear, that observations are fully collected, are separated from speculation and attempted workarounds, relevant log files are checked, etc, etc.

Plop tout le monde

Maybe some of you have missed this mail, we need more people to play with bugs.  Some of them are trivial other not, but i'm sure that you can ask about helps or clarifications. Bugzilla is not an obscure place, you can learn about how work your server, how work rpm, and why not development if you want...

So take attention to these pages if you want to verify bugs
http://wiki.contribs.org/Verification_Queue and this one also http://wiki.contribs.org/Bugzilla_Help

If you have time you can search about workaround or attempt to reproduce errors
http://wiki.contribs.org/Triage_Queue and this one too http://wiki.contribs.org/Bugzilla_Reports

Voila have fun :)

From Terry Fage http://lists.contribs.org/pipermail/devinfo/2015-January/012744.html

Much like the old WW1 posters of Kitchener pointing his finger, your
help is needed.

Currently the push is on to resolve and verify a smattering of
bugs/NFRs/contribs for SME9 and SME8

Both versions are due for a new release and ISO.

A small, depressingly very small, group is working their way through the
lists, we need ppl to help, those with the skills in the coding field
would be treated and welcomed like royalty  if you don't have that
skill set (like me) then help with carrying out Triage and Verifications
would be of immense help.

Currently the verification lists are not huge, and there are a couple of
real easy ones to cut yopur teeth on.

http://wiki.contribs.org/Triage_Queue

http://wiki.contribs.org/Verification_Queue

This one is simple http://bugs.contribs.org/show_bug.cgi?id=8517

If you want help, theres plenty who will guide you.

We are looking about more people contributing to the development side in bugzilla or in the documentation, all skills are needed. Maybe it is not the first time you hear that call :)

As I can see, we have more people recently and I thank personally each of them, but we are just enough to work for patching bugs and not enough to bring you new features.

Your distro needs You and the guys who are currently working also.

You can follow bug here http://wiki.contribs.org/Dashboard or here http://bugs.contribs.org/buglist.cgi?chfieldto=Now&query_format=advanced&chfieldfrom=7d&order=Last%20Changed or you can subscribe to bugteam and contribteam mailling lists.

This is necessary to verify the bugs that a developer has submitted a patch, but you can also propose patches, sometime it is quite easy, all starts from a search on google, sometime it is harder...but any travel begins by a first step, so go on.

For that you don't need a cvs access even a build box, all can be done on a smeserver if needed, it is like that I started to learn (I don't work in IT, but I love SME)

Quite sure that if you ask questions, on devinfo, on IRC, by private email you will have answers.
