SME 8.0 & sitex
TerryF:
According to the doocs..
After install http://servername/sitex to get to the interface to setup - is this occuring for you?
Then http://www.mysmedomain.com/sitex to access site as per normal and then run
signal-event sitex-post-upgrade to delete setup files - is this what is happening for you?
You noted that you are using
https://www.<domainname.co.uk>
and
https://<domainname.co.uk>/index.php
note httpS
None of which are described in the docs as how to access the site post install..
This, https://www.<domainname.co.uk>, is not going to work out of the box without the ip addy pointing to the sitex "site"
The docs clearly states that after setting the FQDN the site is accessable from http://www.mysmedomain.com/sitex..
To have it accessable from http://www.mysmedomain.com takes more than just changing a URL in sitex..
heres a tute on redirecting a url to the /opt/xxxx
I am sure there are others here who can explain it better

This was a bit of a mistake on my part, at first I was trying to copy/paste the url to see if it would work, but forgot that it resolves to https:

Yes you are right, and it does, i can set it up and configure without any problems, however if i want some one externally to access it, i will have to provide the /sitex bit at then end of the domain, i would really like this to be at the default primary ibay

I thought as much :(

I think i have seen it, but its a bit complicated for me :(

Are you wanting to use the servers main domain name or a virtual host domain name ?
The web redirect howto has some issues & the method outlined is not recommended.
There are notes about alternative methods on the Discussion or Talk page but I have only played with those so cannot necessarily recommend them.
I would recommend you move the contribs app files from /opt/... to an ibay html folder.
Use the Domains panel to redirect the primay domain or the virtual domain to the ibay content.
Avoid using the primary ibay as you have less easy control of settings & parameters for that.
You will have to tweak the apps config file & set ibay parameters to allow proper access etc, but this is usually easy enough to do & generically documented in forums & wiki.

Thanks for the guidance TerryF and janet, It gets a little confusing since SME being template based, it is so different to other linux distos.
Janet, yes you are right, i do want to use the servers main domain name to host the sitex content, i will try what you suggest and get back to you if i have success..
Heres to hoping :)
