Sharing a ups without using "UPS" as the name?
« on: August 01, 2013, 07:28:44 AM »
Hello all,

I have a UPS connected to a SME 8 server, using NUT. On the same network a QNAP NAS exists, which I'd like to configure as a NUT slave. Unfortunately, QNAP devices when operating as NUT slaves expect the NUT ups to have a specific name ("qnapups"), and specific user/password ("admin" / "123456" respectively). Security is not an issue in this environment.

SME presents its UPS with name "UPS", which also seems hard-coded in /etc/e-smith/templates/etc/ups/ups.conf

Which would be an elegant way to modify this? Copying /etc/e-smith/templates/etc/ups/ups.conf to templates-custom and modifying "UPS" to read "qnapups" comes to mind, but perhaps there are cleaner alternatives?

Thanks in advance for any info provided.
