« on: August 07, 2002, 07:38:50 AM »
I want to setup the mail system for the school.
but i don't know how to,could you give me any advise.

I applied a cable moden from isp,
I use the dynamical ip.
I have applied the dynamical dns from www.dyndns.org

I have some confusing.

Does the dynamical dns can be used in the mail address eg.myname@myname.dyndns.org?

Does the cable moden can be used with dedicated?

Does i need to use the Internet provider's SMTP server and pop server,or i only need to use the qmail function in the sme server to send and recieve mail?

What the procedure of the config mail server?

thank you

:)

You'll be required to register your own domain name (per the rules on their website), and this will allow you to configure your own email server using SME.  Setup and administration of email using SME is very easy, and I recommend that you read their documentation.

http://edocs.mitel.com/6000_SME_Server/smeserveruserguide/English/index.html

Since you are using dyndns, their service will make sure that requests to your domain name get routed to your SME server hooked up to your cable modem (some IP address).  For example:

www.somedomain.com -> 21.22.23.24

So when I send email to someone@somedomain.com, the request will get routed eventually to this IP address, where your SME server is running.

Your SME server will act as SMTP and POP for local clients.

Good luck,
Phil
