or, is it time to throw in the  towel?

I have downloading ISO files posted on the Mitel site, or mirror sites, several times now.

When I try to copy them, all I get is a blank-page icon (that looks like a text file icon) entitled: "E-SMITH-.ISO").  When I click on this icon, it opens up a blank browser window, and that's the extent of it .  Nothing more happens.

I understand that, to produce a usable CD, I have to copy the "ISO image", but any ISO image file I create produce the same results.

I am using Toast 4.2.  Is it possible that copies cannot be made with this software?

Has anyone succeeded in making copies with this software?

Would it be more practical to order the ISO operating system on a CD than try to copy the disk image?

Hi Mark,

there is a ISO burn how-to in the docs ( online http://www.e-smith.org/docs/howto/CD_burning_howto.php3 ).
I'm not familiar with toast 4.2 but havent had no problem at all using for example nero 5.5.

In case you stick to toast, have a look at their docs to figure out how to burn an ISO image.

best wishes,

Ralph

Hi

I don't know much about Toast, but you have to find a function in Toast, like Burn ISO Image.

I'f that doesn't work, use another burner.

Nero 5.5.9.0 works just fine :-)

Toast.. Isn't that for Linux? I don't know, if Nero is made for Linux as well, but i guess you have some friends with WindBlows...

Best Regards

There are plenty of apps for linux which can burn an ISO (cdrecord for the CLI, xcdroast et al for GUI), but my recollection is that Toast is a mac app.

Mark, I think the answer is to RTFM for Toast and see if there's an option to burn an ISO file (possibly also called an image file) to CD.  I'd be extremely surprised if there weren't such an option, but not using that software, I have no idea where it would be.

If you can't figure out ISO burning I think you should give up !

I am guessing your are a Mac user?  If you are running OS X you might want to look at cdrecord or some other Linux burning utilities.  They should compile under OS X ok.

For Toast 4, try the instructions here:
http://www.linux-mandrake.com/en/ppcFAQ.php3

From the page:
1. Download the image as a binary file (not as text)
2. Open Toast 4 app.
3. Select "Disc Image" as the type of CD to burn. You can make this selection from the Format menu, or in the Toast panel itself.
4. Click the "Data" button in the Toast panel.
5. Find the ISO image using the finder window that appears and "Open" it.
6. Click "Write CD". That's it.
