Topic: backup to usb drive

I am working on a SME 7.4 server that is going to be replaced with a SME 8.0 server. I have started a backup to usb on the server. I started it on site, but had to leave. I have access to the server from my location. Is there any way I can monitor the progress of the backup remotely either by looking at a log file, or a command from the command line?

df -h
to see if USB drive is still mounted

You can open mc & explore the mounted drive (assume under /media) to see the backup files but this is not particularly informative.

FYI  a recent full backup using affa to local 2Tb USB took 4.5 hours, 320Gb of data on server.

I do not think there is anything that will tell you ie 10% done, 50% done etc.

Thanks Janet, The df -h is showing me how data has been transferred to the usb drive. It is going very slowly as the usb port is probably only 1.1

Yes & depending on the compression setting & CPU speed etc, your CPU may be working very hard, which will also slow things down significantly.

I also just noticed that the server hard drive is full. So I am guessing that is another reason things are going slowly.

Wound up using affa. Worked great. Thanks for the reminder Janet. That was much faster then using USB.
