Raid message
« on: March 19, 2014, 06:25:00 AM »
Started getting this message "Device: /dev/sda, type changed from 'scsi' to 'sat' "

It seems to coincide with one of the updates over the last couple of days but that could be coincidence.

I have searched on this message and read a heap of stuff that I am not really understanding.

Is this a bug or do I just need to replace a drive ??

Any comments appreciated.
Thanks
Peter

Please give more informations about your disks (model & C) and server config; according to some "googled" posts Centos released a new version of Smartd (really this seems not a recent update): take a look if in your last update this package was among the packages downloaded and installed and if really you started receiving the message after update.

Thanks for the reply.

The disks are Seagate 1Gb Barracuda ST1000DM003 in a software RAID 1 Config Sitting on an NFORCE-MCP61 Controller.

The server is V8.1 fully patched. It has been ticking over very happy for about 1.5yrs until this sudden event.

I dont believe SMARTD has been updated in the recent updates. It is this part of the message that has me stumped "changed from 'scsi' to 'sat'" and why suddenly. There was a very recent Kernel update but I am uncertain of it significance in this .

I can easily change the drive or I can take it to the bug tracker but without an understanding of the message, I am uncertain which way to go.
