Mailbox for one user with two domains
« on: June 26, 2014, 03:18:46 PM »
Hello,

i have a comprehension question: In my SME 8.1 i've install a user name "info" and two domains (domain1.xx, domain2.xx). The user name is the same name in both domains (info@domain1.xx, info@domain2@de). In my mailclient i want to send mails from info@domain1.xx or/and info@domain2.xx. Also i would transfer automaticle (with Sieve?) mails from "info" in two seprate folder under the folder inbox.
Have anyone a tipp for me?

Thanks Detlev

It does depend on the email client you are using, but in Outlook or Thunderbird you'll need to create two account entries, one for each of the email address, despite them both going to the same SMEServer account.  Then you can "choose" from which account to send it.

You can use email "rules" to arrange for the emails to be moved to one or the other of two folders, according to the "to" address.  In Thunderbird I do this all the time (i have hundreds of folders).

There are other ways to approach this, using Pseudonyms.

I suggest you FULLY read the Pseudonyms chapter of the SME server Manual (link at top of Forums), so you miss nothing.
Please search before asking, an answer may already exist.
The Search & other links to useful information are at top of Forum.

Hello Brain, Thank you for your instructions, so this confirms my previous approach. I wanted to limit the involvement of the mail user to only one entry. This is then probably not, the user always sees then all involved mailboxes.

@ janet: thanks for your tip. This information I have read in detail before I wrote here. From the description the technical process  it was not clear for me. Probably you have misunderstood my question. I create a user and assign multiple pseudonyms. I have the system understood that the user is automatically registered for each domain as a receiver.

I'm coming back to my problem. There exists the user info, which is available for domain1 and domain2. How to look like a solution that members of domain1 (group domain1) see only the messages that have been also sent to domain1 and domain2 users of only the messages that have been sent to domain2?

Unfortunately exist for both domains a mailbox info@domain.xx.

I can not find a suitable way.

Regards Detlev

your approach is wrong

create 2 users (let's say infodm1, infodm2)
create 2 new pseudonyms:
- info@domain1 points to infodm1
- info@domain2 points to infodm2

if you already have an info user, you should change your setup accordingy

Hello Stafano,

this is THE right tip. How could I have missed it? I did not realize that a pseudonym with an @ domain may be supplemented. Much obliged. Now it works just fine. Many thanks.
