Our 5.1.5 install woes & goes...
« on: August 14, 2002, 06:34:08 AM »
Here's the Error Report eMail we're
about to send to Mitel (ie if we can
find their support eMail address...):

The attached file was written after
an initial attemp to install SME 5.1.5
 onto a Compaq Desktop 2000 / 5133
with 80 MB RAM and a 1.2 GB HD.

As you would know, we were -not-
able to run or further test SME 5.1.5
after getting the error message, which
preceeded the writing of the file.

(Interestingly, we had set the Compaq
 for a non-Windows operating system;
ie -before- the initial installation attempt)

AFTER the first installation attempt, we
 changed the computer's CMOS setup
to the maker's -default- state, and then
set it up for a Windows operating sys.

Although it is unknown -which- of these
changes (or, indeed, if -another- cause)
was responsible for the success, that
 we have sonce experienced (BTW,
-do- let us know if -you- can work out
the [probable] cause from the attached file).
I'm happy to report that SME 5.1.5
is now (by all indications) working OK.

Oh, it didn't seem to present a DHCP
server to the LAN (in the presence of
 a 5.1.2 DHCP-serving system) - even
after the shutdown of the latter system
  - until (next day, when) we powered-up
-both- the 5.1.5 server -&- LAN work-
stations; naturally, the 5.1.2 DHCP sys
 was not powered-up during today's
 (succesful) test.

 Thanks for a great product!

(If -only- you'd add a simple mechanism
allowing us to shut down the modem - &
 later restart its dialup sequence...
[ie without our having to go to the modem
& pulling its power plug out]
...we'd be as pleased as punch...  ;-)

(We're using our newly commissioned
SME 5.1.5 server to post & send this)

Can't shed any light on your errors but I CAN point you toward a modem control add-on ... works through the server manager, and quite well, too!  I have this on my 5.1.2 server and it's served me well during infrequent DSL outages.
