FileZilla FTP server Accessing SME server
« on: March 04, 2015, 06:10:05 AM »
I have an installation of SME 8 server running on a Dell T105 computer.  I have set up a user (administrator).  It will not let me set up a user (Administrator).
I have a Windows 7 Ultimate machine running FileZilla FTP Server under the user "Administrator".  Windows will not allow me to change the name to "administrator" or set up another user with the name "administrator".
I can log into FileZilla Server with FileZilla Client and see the home folder but no files or other folders. I cannot read/write/list anything on the SME server on the FileZilla Server.

Is there ANY way that I can use FileZilla Server to access an SME server and be able to access the directories?

Thanks.

Hi, welcome here

you can't create an "administrator" account on SME because it is a reserved name.

I'm quite sure you can add any user you need/want to your filezilla server (see, for example, https://www.fastserv.com/kb/article/adding_a_ftp_user_in_filezilla_server/) but, since it is not clear to me what you are trying to achieve, please explain your issue and not your solution, i.e.: what are you do?

I can set up users on FileZilla but they can't access the server because of administrative rights.  I can't believe I am the only one that has experienced these problems.

What I have found so far seems to be that FileZilla is operating under the SYSTEM in Windows and not as a USER.  In that case it should be operating as an Administrator. Hence the problem of the Capital A or small a causing exclusion.  I have an old server that runs on Windows XP and it has to have the Administrator account.  But it works where FileZilla won't.

The solution is the following:
- you must create in windows a user with admin rights (say "ftp-over-share");
- modify your Filezilla server service: usually running as "system" must be run with the above created account "ftp-over-share");
- create on your sme the same user "ftp-over-share" with the same password of the windows one;
- assign proper rights to ibays for user "ftp-over-share";
Now inside Filezilla server interface you can browse your sme and assign folders (event multiple inside a basic home directory using aliases).
