Topic: How to setup an ISDN card?

SAIL 3.1.1-22 with HFC-S ISDN BRI card.

ISDN calls not working, when I try and call in it just cuts off and I don't see anything in the Asterisk trace.

I have done Initialize & Regenerate and the hardware shows up as pci:0000:00:14.0 zaphfc- 1397:2bd0 HFC-S ISDN BRI card but there is nothing in the the system.conf (except loadzone and defaultzone) and the channels.conf tabs except a few lines of commments. I thought these sections should be full of configs which are generated automatically when the card is initialized. Am I mistaken?

No, you are not mistaken.  They should indeed be there after a regen if all is OK with your system.
Tell me, is this a new system or an existing system? 
Which release of SME is it and which kernel release do you have (uname -r).

It's a disaster recovery server we've had for a while. It's not new, but AFAIK the card should be good.

The SAIL 3.1.1-22 image uses SME 8.0

Kernel release: 2.6.18-308.13.1.e15 #1 SMP Aug 21 2012 i686 i686 i386  GNU/Linux

Thanks for the offer but the server is not online at the moment so that wouldn't be possible.

Can you tell me if there are any new versions of SAIL planned? Doesn't seem to have changed since I checked 2 years ago (http://sailpbx.com/iso/SME8/)

There were several releases of 3.1.1 after the one you have - see here http://sailpbx.com/sail/sail-3.1/
There are also releases of sail-4.0 available for SME 8 - see here http://sailpbx.com/sail/sail-4.0/rpms/
