admin login fails for email, works for server-manager
« on: October 10, 2015, 11:31:33 PM »
Starting yesterday I have been unable retrieve email for the admin account. I tried the webmail and the credentials were not accepted. I can log in via server-manager and from a shell. I do apply the updates regularly but I am not sure there is any relationship to this problem.

My regular user account is working for email in a desktop client as well as the webmail.

What sort of things can I look into to determine what may have changed?

What changes did you make to the server yesterday or the day before or the last few days ie since you last successfully accessed the admin mail  ?

Take a look at various log files to see if there are specific error messages &/or clues, look around the time you try to access admin mail
eg messages log file, yum log file

If there is a correlation with a recent update then you should lodge a bug teport immediately so proper investigation can occur.
Also you should not start making changes to the server (rebooting etc) as the forensic trail can be lost
Bug triage experts probably want to see the status of services etc before you reboot & reconfigure etc, so maybe it is best you go straight to bugzilla anyway, & please advise the bug number here so the problem can be followed by others.

Please search before asking, an answer may already exist.

Mophilly

log in as root in a shell and
Code: [Select]
tailf /var/log/messages

then try to login as admin into webmail..

post here the relevant log part, thank you
