That document contains a significant error. Although this statement is true:
"In the example below, the total bytes written is tiny compared to the actual size of the ISO image."
it isn't very relevant how many bytes are written. What counts is the total bytes read, and that is 275371959 for an ISO image size of 295305216. In this particular case the savings from using rsync are negligable, because pretty much every file has changed from version 5.5 to version 5.6alpha6. Since rsync places significantly more burden on our server than ftp does, we'd prefer that people just used ftp to fetch this version. Be sure to check for available mirror sites as well.
