SME server RAID 10
« on: September 25, 2016, 02:11:37 AM »
I'm thinking of rebuilding my virtual server using sme 9, but I want to use raid 10 on my 6 drives.
Is this possible using the graphic installer and if so how should I partition the drives

Looking at a centos guide it recommended
200mb raid 1 boot
2000mb raid 10 swap
Rest raid 10 as /

Does this sound ok?

James

update
Ive done this and used the gui installer to make the 6 spindle raid 10
I set 3 raid partitions
200 mb raid 1 as /boot
2000 md raid 1 as swap
the rest as raid 10 /

but
after installing I could only use the installer to install the mbr to sda
id like to add that info to all the other drives?

Just a bump.
As I only have mbr data on sda is there a command that will copy sda mbr to the other 5 drives?

I was wondering about this question, but then I'm a little confused as to your drive layout.

You have 6 drives ? Which guide did you follow as a matter of interest ?

You have

200MB RAID 1 /boot
2000MB RAID 1 / swap

Which two drives are these partitions on ?

Then you have formatted the rest as RAID 10 ?

Assuming you have 2 drives as a RAID 1 boot I think you only need to install the MBR there and not on the remaining drives. I'm not sure there is any benefit in installing on the other drives ?

A greater man than me will tell you if that is a good layout or not - I'm not sure how varying drive losses may/may not affect your data integrity and if it is a good idea to mix RAID 10 on to the RAID 1 drives.

No all drives have the same setup but I used raid 1 for the boot. Raid 10 for swap and /

Bumping
I now have a drive failure but want to ensure the mbr etc is the same on all drives.
As I had a bit of trouble building the raid 10 I don't want to break anything
