« on: January 06, 2017, 07:15:46 AM »
I have setup SME server to do a automatic daily backup to USB drive.
I have a Hitachi external USB drive attached, but I keep getting a email message to admin account  that Daily backup failed

Code: [Select]
Error while mounting <//localhost/media/Hitachi>
mount: can't find /media/Hitachi in /etc/fstab or /etc/mtab
Backup terminated: backup failed - status: 256

I don't know all the ins and outs of this, however it has happened on both the sites I look after from time to time.  To troubleshoot, I have tried reconfiguring Workstation backup, and found the system could not find the USB drive.  Most of the time, I fixed the problem by removing and re-inserting the USB drive, and testing by configuring Workstation backup.  If all else fails, reboot (but you should not have to).

Please provide more details about the Hitachi USB drive
ie is it an actual hard disk drive, does it have a seperate power supply, is it a type that goes into power saving mode & shuts down ?
There have been issues reported with waking up attached drives, search bugzilla

To check what drives are attached, & with the Hitachi drive connected, do
fdisk -l
Report back here.
