Howto bond two nic's SME Server 9.2
« on: November 13, 2017, 10:20:23 AM »
Hello,

I am having a problem with bonding two nics with the normal installation prozess.

Inviorment:

SME Server 9.2 with three nic's inside. The server is installed  in a Gateway and Server mode with direct connection.
The first nic (eth0 external) is a broadcom extreme card which is the connection to the internernet via a router.

The both nic's are two identical intel pro cards (eth2 and eth3 internal) , both are recognized by the installationroutine but i only can select one card an i don't get the option, to bond the second nic or set the mode of the new virtuel bond nic.

The configuration for eth0 and eth2 or eth0 and eth3 works fine.
Is there a way how to configure the nic's manually?
I found a howto for CentOS 6.5 and 7 for bonding two nic's but that didn't work well for SME Server out of the box.
https://www.unixmen.com/linux-basics-create-network-bonding-on-centos-76-5/

Is there a nice howto for SME Server that I can use or has anybody a hint how to enable the bonding via installationroutine.
Thanks allott for support.

With kindly regards
Luilotte

AFAIK bond is available only in server only mode and with 2 identical nics
