Esmith on a Via C3 processor

anyone have any information on how well the E-smith would run on a PC with the Via C3 processor. I noted that walmart is selling a for $199 and thought that it would make a nice replacement for my P200 E-smith 4.1.x server that I am currently running.

don't buy one of these...
your better of with a adm duron or a celeron..
for the same amount of money u get twice (or more) performance...
the c3 is really slow.. the only advantage is that the c3 uses less power than amd duron or intel celeron... so the c3 is cooler than the other 2...
in holland (that's where i live) u can get a 900Mhz amd duron for €35/33$

if you have more questions mail me at g.weber@wish.nl.

bye

Im running it on a VIA Eden, which is basically a C3 533.
It has no issues with speed, most of the time it just sits there doing nothing :)

My whole motherboard was Au 206, so its a cheap way to upgrade a machine ( includes cpu ). You could get the 800mhz version for about 20 more.

Jon, where did you get the board from?

I have been looking for a supplier out this way. Be interested in what type of case you put the thing in as well.

I have purchased quite a few Microservers from  Traverse Technologies www.travers.com.au

They sell barebones 533 or 800MHz Via C3 mainboards with a small case to suite.....about the size of a telephone book. You can purchase ADSL, ISDN (that support DOV), NIC,s and modems to fit inside the case...they are low profile.

I have a few or these running on sites with no problems with speed or stability....they are great as they will fit into a small wall mounted 19" rack along with your hub and patch panel.
