cannot receive mail

Hi there,

I hope somebody out there will be able to help me out.

I have installed SME server and gateway 5.5 with blade 1 - standard and out of the box.

I can send mail but not receive mail from external sources.

perhaps information can be derived from the configuration I justdon't know where to look:

Networking Parameters

Server Mode servergateway
Local IP address / subnet mask 10.0.0.2/255.255.255.0
External IP address / subnet mask 10.0.0.2/255.255.255.0
Gateway
Additional local networks No additional networks defined
DHCP server enabled
Beginning of DHCP address range 10.0.0.65
End of DHCP address range 10.0.0.250

Server names

DNS server
Web server wwwhestbaek.net
Proxy server
FTP server ftp.hestbaek.net
SMTP, POP, and IMAP mail servers mail.hestbaek.net

Help is highly appreciated

Regards

Your external address need to be the address assigned to you(dynamic/static) by your Internet provider.  No one can send email to that IP.  Or, if the internet connection is through a router or something, the router needs to port forward email to the server and you don't need to be in gateway mode.
For an external Ip(at the time I posted this), I get 212.242.113.186 for hestbaek.net.  With that IP I can get your webmail to pop-up and an under construction website.  For the email to work, you need to have the default domain or a virtual domain name with hestbaek.net on it.

Thanks Nate,

It seems to be the little (but important things) I've missed :)

I did the changes to the router and now I can receive and send mail to/from external sources.

Thanks again for your fast and good answer to my question (I should have tried this forum a long time ago...)

Regatds

by the way...

I think the documentation is very good on the SME server and most of the issues I have had relates to external environment.

Maybe the documentation should include setting up the router and making changes to the domain name (A records / MX settings) - if this could be written in a generic way, not accounting for the different routers out there.

Just an idea :)
