Since RedHat 6.0 comes precinfigured with an IMAP server, why did you dcide not to implement it in e-smith.  I would deploy it as our min e-mail server replacing our legacy Notes/NT system but can't until IMAP is available.  I tried installing the imap RPM from RedHat 6 but it doesn't work.  Any succeded with it yet?

PS.  Great product overall.  I have been looking for something easy to administer like e-smith for a long time.  The LDAP server is the best part.  With a few more tweaks it will be an excellent server.  Keep up the good work.

Hi Tim,

Our product uses the qmail mailer and stores incoming messages in "Maildir" format, which is a great deal more reliable than the traditional mbox format. Unfortunately, this means that standard IMAP servers don't work out of the box with our software.

We're planning to have IMAP support in the next version of the product.  In the meantime, if you know of any IMAP servers that can deal with the Maildir format, they should work with the e-smith server.

Thanks for your feedback and supportive comments!

As well as the Maildir format, imapd needs to
be appropriately patched to handle PAM
authentication.

I've posted binary and source RPMs for a
an imapd with both Maildir and PAM patches
applied. *Note* - I haven't tested this with
e-smith yet. If it's important to you, try this out and let me know how you get on.

If you are stuck with POP but want to have roaming, make sure that the email config and
mail folders are kept on the e-smith home share. This will achieve most of what you want IMAP for...

Any hint where to find this information would be wonderful...
