creating SME10 via internet boot disk - 1st boot issue.
« on: November 07, 2021, 05:27:01 PM »
I saved the Internet net disk for installing SME10.

During install setup , time and other settings were set. However in the next screen it simply starts installing the software with no provision to add a password.

When done I shut down and removed disk but during new boot it did not do a 1st boot request to add my data backup. (I have a console backup) .

So instead it just goes straight to

login

However no mention of what an initial login might be as it never asked me to set one up during the CD install.

And if a default user and password is known the other question is what to do to initiate a first restore as the question is not there.

i must assume a lot of things because your post miss a lot of information.

i assume you did a netinstall.

you state that you only get a login, without SME console, if first is true, then the reason is you did not manually selected minimal install to install a SME.

As a result you end up with minimal centos. This is a known situation and we have no control over it, the alternative was to auto select SME minimal install, but in most situation the internet connection was too slow to detect the repo and the installer failed before starting.

So on the second page before hitting install go to the package selection and actually select the minimal install.

Being at the end of a long peice of string I am no fan of netinstall, success has only come a couple of times during iso testing, so dependent on my/your connectivity/hardware/technology/time of day/weather/sunspots :-) others on the team have had far more reliable outcomes than I.

Good luck

works great for me with a server in a middle of a datacenter, with close centos and sme mirrors ;)

I expect you are 100% correct, and it could not link proper for the minimal install.  I thus did a full install instead of net install and setting my Network IP I see it was utilizing internet time servers so I can assume the Intel based embedded network adapters are working on this HP. Unfortunately there is still a issue in that regard in the transition from 9 where they are not working after my data is loaded but that is another thread.

Thanks,
Ken

For the netinstall, tips you can use the regular iso and still enable remote repo, so you can install last updates in the same time, if this was your goal with netinstall.

For the interface, you have to reconfigure your server after the restore and then restart
on EL7/SME10 interface name have changed (e.g. enp5s0 or ens3), so your EL6/SME9 config using eth0 will just fail, hence the need to reconfigure, event if you restore on the very same hardware.

Check the config from the console, I have had situation of a clean sme10 install, backup sme9, restore to the sme10, the eth adapters were swapped, so eth0 became internal lan and eth1 became wan, were reverse on initial install of sme10..just a suggestion, and beware the naming under sme10/centos 7 drives one to distraction :-)

In this case the network is internal only so will not have that reverse issue.

Thanks,

No worries, server only, if you have two eth cards, as I do, just make sure right one has been chosen :-)
