Post upgrade quota problem
« on: January 03, 2022, 03:48:26 PM »
I recently updated by V9.2 home server to V10.0.  The upgrade (on same hardware, new drives) went smoothly but I am getting daily emails from /sbin/e-smith/warnquota:

Code: [Select]
Cannot query quota for 'adam' on '(XFS)/dev/mapper/kss_ubuserver-home': No quotas on this system
Cannot query quota for 'alec' on '(XFS)/dev/mapper/kss_ubuserver-home': No quotas on this system
Cannot query quota for 'backup-agent' on '(XFS)/dev/mapper/kss_ubuserver-home': No quotas on this system
Cannot query quota for 'barry' on '(XFS)/dev/mapper/kss_ubuserver-home': No quotas on this system

If I go into the quotas panel in server manager, I see the same users, with no quotas set.  If I attempt to set a quota for a user, the Operation Status report box appears, showing success - however the table still shows no quota is set.

I had a look at the system log around the time I made the change, as follows:

Note that the list of users is correct, but the server name is 'mmserver', not 'kss_ubuserver'.  I do not know where this came from.

Any pointers on where to look for fixing this would be gratefully received, cheers, Barry.

You'll have to tell us more about your old server.

And we have no idea where kss_ubuserver comes from either but at a guess Ubuntu orientated.

Is this a VM, real hardware?

Really need to go right back and give us some history & context.

A read through this might help.

OK, sorry, here is more information:

This is a physical server (Dell PowerEdge T140 with 32Gb RAM) upgraded from V9.2 to V10.  The upgrade method was to isolate from LAN/WAN, backup to USB external drive, replace hard drives for blanked ones (2x 3TB), install V10 (via ISO on USB thumb drive) then restore server data etc. from USB external drive.

The 'new' hard drives had their partition tables erased using FDISK.

Prior to upgrade I was not using quotas.  I was not getting any quota emails.  I had no contribs related to quotas installed.

Aside from the quota issue, I am not seeing any other problems.  Data, emails etc. all appear to have been restored as expected.  Updates are being downloaded and installed regularly.  Files are served O.K. emails are sent & delivered.

The server is in 'server and gateway' mode.

I am not looking for a fix so much as for pointers really - where should I start to look?

Thanks and best wishes,
Barry.

the lvm partition (XFS)/dev/mapper/kss_ubuserver-home is not from SME Server
this is connected to your server, and has been manually configured to be mounted there

my guess it has been created under ubuntu and either the version of mkfs was too recent for centos7 and quota information is not recognized either quota has never been enabled on this parition and you will have to do it.
