Hylafax - is it any good? and where do I get the RPMs etc fr

Gday All,

Is Hylafax a solid program ? I saw a thread saying that it wasn't "robust", but other that say it is.

Also, I saw a HowTO at http://www.sulman.org/sme/hylafax.html but when i do a search for the RPMs it talks about they come up not found. Does anyone know exactly which RPMs I need and where I can get them ?

any help would be appreciated.

cheers,

Adam

Duncan

I have used Hylafax for three years. In that time i have barely had any problems with it. I figure maybe a 1% faliure rate which is comparable to what my Fax machine did.

Setting up the modems used to be difficult but the later releases handle them quite well. I am using an old isa card which i had lying around. It works a treat.

While the server side runs well, the client side lacks a bit. We use e-mail to both send and recieve the faxes.

I have a copy of Red Hat 7.2 where i found most of the required RPMs. The stuff is on the internet, you probably just need to widen your search.

Hylafax is excellent, no question.  As Duncan said, the client side is somewhat lacking.  Darrell May has a nice "canned solution" which is incredibly easy to set up & use [http://myezserver.com/] which takes all the pain out of figuring out which RPM's you need etc. At $95 Canadian, IMHO it's worth it even if it's just for the ability to receive faxes as PDF attachments.
