Win XP and Printing issue 5.1.2
« on: September 21, 2002, 04:15:59 AM »
I have set up 5.1.2 to queue for a network printer using the server-manager (seems to work ok.)

When I connect to the network queue from my XP Home machine, I receive an "Access denied, unable to connect" status error, but this does not impede printing through that printer.  The only error I see in the log file is: call_nt_transact_ioctl: Currently not implemented.

Does anyone have any clues on this one.  (printing from the Win9x boxes is working with no errors.)

I think you will find with Win2000 and XP you need to set the printer up as a local port rather than a networked printer as you would for 98.

The path for the local port would be \servername\printername.

Sorry Duncan -

Win XP will not let me create a local port \server\queue.

It complains that the port already exists (because it does... on the e-smith box)

Any more suggestions?

Thanks anyway.

I'm having the same problem, basically you can't see the queue reporting on xp or 2000 machines.  When i changed setup so the system logged into the sme server with a domain then the error went away.  However, you still would not see the print que contents when you open it in printers.  You do get the active print jobs icon showing up in the systray.  Once I went back to workgroup the problem returned.
If you discover a fix, for non-domain setup please let me know and I will do same.
thanks
