I am trying to transfer files from my Linux box, part of the LAN, to the e-smith server using ftp. When I try to login I get a Login failed message.
I can do an anonymous ftp into the e-smith server but this wont let me upload files.

I can log into e-smith using my account damienc and upload into /users/damienc/home fine.

Are you trying to log in as a user? Does the user exist? And where are you attempting to upload your files?

Hmm... I tried logging in as admin; as user account 'linuxhelp' and a ibay account 'ldp', they all failed.

The home directory is /home/e-smith/files/... , I don't have a /users/home directory. How did you create the damienc account? Did you do it from the web administratior or on the e-smith server with 'adduser'?.

What version of e-smith are you using?

You are trying to ftp to your e-smith server locally, are you specifying the correct address?

In version 4 the correct address should be: ftp.e-smith.yourdomainname.xxx

In version 3.1:
ftp.yourdomainname.xxx  -  if this doesn't work, try to ftp to the IP (most likely 192.168.16.1 if you used the default).

I am having similar problems. Can do anon FTP, but can't login by any means. I'm using 3.1  What username should I use to upload to /home/e-smith/files/primary to install the default web? I have tried admin and root, but neither work.
