Well, just so you know we aren't dead.....
With it being summer in the northern hemisphere we have all been pretty busy with general life. I've personally drunk enough nicely chilled rose/rosado to warrant a new liver
And not to mention some people toasting their server code and disabling their internet for a while
They shall rename nameless.
Brian has been chiselling away with the new server-manager but has had to fit that in with a number of issues in his home life.
JP has made some progress on LDAP - that is a massive job but to users it should be seamless and transparent and it is sad that sometimes the biggest hardest jobs are invisible
There are several interdependent parts that will all come in one go at which point we can start some serious testing. eg webmail, LDAP, Bind, Postfix. A huge amount of work by JP in the background. Unsung hero.
We expect that to be out sometime in September. We should then have all the basics in place for general testing and the process of building an ISO.
If you want to speed that along then come and join us.
Those of us who develop Koozali SME hang out on our Rocket.Chat instance for general chat as much as Koozali SME stuff. It's very convivial with chat on music and food, and wine, and IT jokes and memes and......We all have quite a laugh!
Best of all you can talk to the people who really know this stuff, and even better - we don't bite! You do not need to be a developer. Just have a bit of interest in computers, IT, and learning. Just DM me for an account.
Why don't we open it up to all and sundry? Because originally it was my company test server and when we were building v10 I offered it to a couple of people as a place to chat through issues we were having
in real time and more easily than say bugs.
Literally Terry was testing, telling us, we'd fix and push the code, it would build and he would test agin. Almost in minutes. It sped up testing and dev no end.
I also used LDAP to manange users but that doesn't work so easily with general registration.
Rocket.Chat also put restrictions on users/functions before I had applied for a licence so we were keeping user numbers down a bit. Including bots and spammers.
Anyway, once we have v11 out we will likely move it to Koozali infra and open up registration.
