Elections 2024

Hello members of the SME community.

The time has come to elect the Board for the forthcoming 3 years.

I would like first to thanks for his efforts Nicolas Candelier who is a SME enthusiast since early 2000's and has been part of the French active SME community for years. He was with us on the board for the last 8 years. He know has to focus on new challenges but will remain a SME user. Thank you Nicolas.

During the last 3 years we focused on maintaining SME10 and looking toward the future. Our good old building system based on plague was overdue to make a change. Thanks to Trevor Batley incredible work we now have a functioning koji build system (https://koji.koozali.org/koji), ready to go for the next challenges over the planned major releases of SME Server. Also thanks to Trevor and Brian Read for their impressive work to bring us from CVS to git (https://src.koozali.org).
Speaking of mext releases of SME Server, SME 11 is late, as SME 10 is already EOL since june 2024, but we are close to the goal. While we are still only in alpha1, we have fixed a lot of bugs, and we are moving the distro toward the future, removing some good old software that have not been maintained upstream for years. As an example we are moving from qmail to postfix. We expect being able to move from alpha to RC very fast as soon as the iso build process is in place with the new buildsystem.

Speaking buildsystem and git, thanks to those we have been able to build all the contribs available for SME10 to SME11 in the fastest way we were ever able to do.

Donations keep coming - we have enough to keep the infrastructure running. However, we are due to move the cluster to a new server, which we plan after SME11 is released. Be prepared for a fund raise !

I would like to thank you all board members and all contributors for their hard work during the last 3 years. Also thank you for all the donors, and all members of the community helping each others through the forum. If you have spare time please consider joining us on the board.

You do not have to be a coder to help. The Board is there predominantly to oversee the finances of Koozali SME Server.  Also people skilled in communication would be a perfect match on the board to help developing the community.

Voting

To keep things simple I intend to run the Election as we did last years. Vote will stay open for 15 days as stated in the by-Laws, running until December 1st 16:00 east time.

To keep the process simple the list of current members wanting to continue is proposed in a separate post, and if you agree with the list then you could follow up with a Subject line of "Vote".

On this basis we make the assumption that you are voting for one of the listed Nominees.

If there is anyone who does not agree with re-election of the nominated people, then please state in a follow up to this post and we will have to separate it out.

If you wish to stand for election yourself then please start a new post with a title of "Nominee - Your Name" and write a little about who you are and why you should be elected.

If more than 9 people stand, then we will split it into individual votes and work from there.

Please DO NOT use any of the threads to try and make political capital etc or start long debates. Any such threads will be removed and the user banned. Please just VOTE or NOMINEE and nothing else.

Best regards

Jean-Philippe
