Upgrade from 4.0b6 ?
« on: April 25, 2000, 06:42:34 AM »
I am currently running 4.0b6 and am wondering if there is an option to upgrade on the 4.0b7 release. When I installed 4.0b6 from 3.1 I didn't have thge option, and had to dump all of the data in the user folders, and Ibays. This was not a big problem because i am on @home and was unable to get internet connectivity with 3.1 so the server was not in use, and there was no data to backup. Now I am up and running fine with 4.0b6 and have quite a bit of data in the user folders and Ibays, and I do not look forward to moving/organizing/restoring it from another local system. Is it possible (read easy) to perform an upgrade, or should I wait for the 4.0 final before I bother.
I am a Linux newbe, but have a good background in Win/Mac networking (still can't type that fast though)

Here are the RPM's that should take you to the latest beta.
(I've done this upgrade only from b6 to b7.  I'm not sure about earlier betas.)

e-smith-base-4.0.10-1.i386.rpm
e-smith-email-4.0.6-1.i386.rpm

They are available in the directory:

ftp://ftp.e-smith.net/pub/e-smith/dev/e-smith-4.0b7/RPMS

After upgrading, you should regenerate the config files and reboot using
these commands (if you haven't done so already):

/sbin/e-smith/signal-event console-save
/sbin/shutdown -r now

The above directions worked for me and probably everyone else on the devinfo list.

Best of luck
