I thought it was an XP-only problem, but is the signed logon requirement disabled in the registry?

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\netlogon\parameters]
"RequireStrongKey"=dword:00000000
"RequireSignOrSeal"=dword:00000000

No, it's a windows networking issue, irregardless of whether the server is a Linux PC or a Win2000 Server.

Because you already have connections to the server, you cannot change to domain networking until you first disconnect all connections to the server (delete any and all mapped drives, network printers, etc. going to the server). Then, and only then can you attempt to join the domain.

You were correct - not only connections from the administrator account but from the employee account as well and had to re-set up the email and icons on desktop. A good idea to save ones email before doing this.

Thanks, this has been a problem I've been perplexed about for some time.
