Network Printing using e-smith
« on: April 25, 2000, 08:11:40 PM »
I have used Redhat Linux 5.1 to 6.1. However, I need a way to share a printer connected
to the e-smith server. Does anyone know how?
What am I missing.

Thanks

What version of e-smith are you using?

Is the printer actually connected to the e-smith server and gateway?  It would probably be better to put this on another machine inside of your LAN.

At any rate, in the e-smith-manager there is a 'printers' option...selecting this will list all printers that are present, and allows you to add new printers.

Thanks for your response. I downloaded e-smith 3.1 iso image and created the cd-rom on my burner.
The e-smith server is working so well I did not want to disturb it by doing experiments.

I had RedHat 6.1 installed on this machine, but replaced it with e-smith 3.1 simply because
it was so easy to get a web server on line (and it is based on Redhat 6).
The entire operation took less than 30 minutes.
My home/office only has 6 pc's sharing the gateway, and a small web site under construction.
Eventually, I will mount the printer on another pc. If possible I would like to share the printer
on the e-smith server for the short term.

Get E-Smith 4.0, hook the printer to your e-smith box using the parrallel cable and go to your web interface (e-smith-manager) there is a printers option there, configure it for your print device.  Then through network neighborhood on your other machines, assuming your using windows 9x or NT, you will see it as a shared resource on your e-smith server.  Specific printer drivers will be installed on each local machine.  Have the software avail.
